NS1 Streamer

Description

The NS1 Streamer acts as a powerful and versatile bridge between the internet, your network and your music system. It enables you to access the vast libraries of music available via the many internet streaming services. It also provides playback of audio files attached via USB stick and network attached storage.

Let me be perfectly short and sweet—the EMM Labs NS1 is among the finest network player/streamers I’ve had the pleasure to live with. If you’re looking for a hardware streaming solution that does its job without adding a voice of its own, allowing digital music to breathe, bloom, and blossom to its full communicative and emotive potential, take a serious look at and listen to the EMM Labs NS1 Streamer.

Streaming and Audio Playback

Using UPnP/DLNA media streaming standards, the NS1 Streamer is able to share media, and communicate between many different media devices. Using its app, it can easily be remote controlled by mobile and tablet devices.

Along with UPnP/DLNA support, the NS1 is also ROON READY and is a ROON ENDPOINT.

The NS1 can connect to many high resolution streaming services like TIDAL and QOBUZ. It also supports popular streaming services like SPOTIFY, DEEZER, vTUNER and many more.

The NS1 supports network and USB file playback including AAC, AIFF, ALAC, FLAC, MP3, WAV and WMA, along with MQA® and DSD (DFF, DSF) files.

EMM Optilink and Control

The NS1 is equipped with EMM’s proprietary EMM Optilink interface. The EMM Optilink interface allows the NS1 to be galvanically isolated from EMM D/A Converters.

Along with EMM’s Optilink, EMM D/A Converters like the DA2 V2 and the DV2 can receive media and track information on their display via RS232 connection.

The NS1 is controlled easily with the mConnect Control app for mobile (Android/IOS) and mConnect HD for tablets.

Game changer

At Locrian Audio we have used the NS1 Streamer extensively. While technical capabilities and functionality may be the “gate” for consideration, it is its music reproduction abilities where it excels. Utilizing mainly Qobuz for streaming with high resolution files, the listener will be surprised with the wide and deep 3D rendering from NS1 as well the timbre accuracy and music dynamics. For example, playing Three Blind Mice recordings, where the location of each instrument in space is provided, we were very clearly able to validate the record diagrams provided. The same with live recordings for which we had video archives of the event. Similar impressions with files stored in external drives which are directly attached via its USB port. The bass is solid and fast and voices natural with the “in room” feeling. The set-up and use of its provided app is easy and intuitive (we use mainly iOS). Network connection and access to music servers was equally fast and painless.

Many audiophiles we know have been reluctant to invest in high end streamers because they believe the quality will not match that of a reference level dedicated CD transport. Thus, they settle for budget products which are unable to perform at par to the rest of their system. Not the case with the NS1 which many times surpasses well regarded transports in its performance.
